Friday evening our buddies Nessa and Pressly came over to enjoy the gorgeous weather outside with us.

Taking turns is a concept we are still learning to love.

Teaching Gavin how to use the launcher to throw the ball for the dogs. It sure is the only way I can throw it

far enough to exhaust them at night.

Monday Miscellany

Sorry, but this week got away from me as Tim was home and we tried to pack in as much fun as we could. I will have lots of pictures to post in the next couple days! And I promise to take notes of all our fun moments to continue Monday Miscellany next week.

New shoes

New shoes. They are new. They aren't comfortable. They aren't familiar. Many of us, two-year olds especially, don't like change. We like comfort, we like familiarity, we like what we know. These aren't the shoes I wear everyday. What are these?

It takes time to adjust to change. New schedules, new routines, new jobs....and new shoes. Everyday, we try the shoes on. We cry, we don't want to walk in them, we refuse them.

But eventually, they aren't new anymore. They are familiar from seeing them everyday. So we try them on again. We take a few steps. They are okay. And all of a sudden, man are they some cool shoes! They fit great! We run in them, we accept them, and we can't wait to get them on everyday and get outside and go.

Belated Birthday with Daddy!

What a busy day for the recently turned 2-year old, and all before nap time! Daddy was home for the weekend so we packed in some fun to celebrate Gavin's birthday. On Sunday we headed off to Build-A-Bear and then Chuck E. Cheese for lunch. I wanted to head to MacQueens Orchard Fall Fest after nap time, but it just wasn't in the cards. Another day. Now on to some photo fun....

The Build-A-Bear Workshop. I had this idea that if Gavin built a bear with daddy that he would have something special to sleep with every night that he is away. What a neat place! The workshop is set up in stages....

First thing you do is pick out a bear. The bears then need to be taken over to be filled. Gavin declined to step on the pedal that sends the stuffing into the bear. So mommy did it. After filled, you pick out a heart to have tucked inside:) After being closed up, kids are encouraged to come "bathe" and brush their new friend.

Next, this bear needs some clothes!! And man, is there ever a selection! There are so many accessories as well. I see us making trips back for specialty bears...maybe a potty bear in the future. Impressively enough we escaped this trip with only a shirt and pants. While the car and motorcycle were fun to play with in the store, we didn't need them. Nor did we need the cute little shoes. Who cuddles up in bed with a bear with shoes on??After the dressing room, there is a station where you can name your bear and create a birth certificate for him/her. We skipped this step this time. To the register we go.Mission accomplished!Next up....lunch!Tim couldn't wait to take Gavin to Major Magics, but they were closed for renovations. So his wait continues. Chuck E Cheese's, however, was right down the street. Gavin wasn't quite ready for all the "excitement" of the games and rides. He warmed up to the toddler area, but anything that moved was pretty scary. We went for the meal deal and ordered One Large Pizza with 1 topping, two drinks, which came with 35 tokens. Not a bad deal, for us anyway:)

A bus! Now we're talking Gavin's language.After eating he decided it was fun to put the tokens in the games.But NOT if he was sitting in it. We walked up front to check out the "show." And of course, I had to get him to sit in the car next to the mouse. I even gave him the last token to put in it while he sat....this resulted in quite a jump, and an immediate leap to dad. No, it's not a scary ride. It barely moves. But it was more than Gavin was up for today.

Monday Miscellany

1) Outside when Gavin drops a snack I've learned to step on it as I say "all gone," so he doesn't pick it up and eat it. I've done this for a long time now. Well, the other day he was eating goldfish in the living room and he dropped one......yep, you guessed it, he stepped on it digging it nicely into the carpet. I need to teach him that at home it's okay to eat off the floor...hahaha

2) I usually leave my purse on our computer desk, which is conveniently located near the front door. I also ALWAYS have it zipped shut....except this once. I was watching TV after Gavin was in bed and my cat walked across the room with a five dollar bill. Sweet.

3) Gavin loves stickers. He receives them at home and daycare for good behavior and being a good helper. We were at Kohls and he was happy checking out the cups/plates and blankets rack while I looked at the clearance stuff right next to him. I should have known he was up to something. He had taken several of the "stickers" off the sock packages and proudly put them on his shirt. When we went up to pay, his shirt was covered with them. (7 pack, 40% off, etc.) While everyone in line was checking him out he decided it was a good time to show them all his "button." Of course, it was busy and the line was long. We all need comic relief to take our minds off the line, right?!

4) Grandma and Grandpa Johnson stopped over on Sunday to wish Gavin a Happy Birthday. While they were here for a few minutes, Grandma Kathy thought she would be funny and start mimicking everything that Gavin was doing. Joke turned on Kathy quickly because as soon as he realized what she was doing he pulled up his shirt! Copy me now, Grandma. ;)

5) Cotton Candy and ketchup. Does it get any grosser sounding than that?! Let me explain, not that it will be any less disgusting. Tim took Gavin with him to the bank where he received a cotton candy flavored sucker. We always ask for the white/clear suckers for what I hope is an obvious reason. After arriving home, we sat down for a lunch of Turkey burgers, green beans, and Doritos. Gavin likes to dip, remember, so we put a little dish of ketchup so he could dip pieces of his burger in it. G had a better idea. He used Doritos as shovels and devoured the dish of ketchup. Sick. He did eat half his sandwich, all his beans and most of his Heinz flavored Doritos. So when daddy was giving him a kiss before nap, he says "Bubba, you smell/taste like cotton candy and ketchup." My stomach did a little dance to that statement.
