The Egg Drop

This year we went somewhere new!
The Church on Strayer.

The event was the annual egg drop.

Drop? Drop from where?

A HELICOPTER!

First things first. We signed in and attached his wrist band. The band holds his name and my phone number.
Good idea....there were A LOT of people.

Look at all those eggs!!
The helicopter drops a bunch more, but the eggs are for the most part all spread out in fenced areas.
Not a secure fence by any means.
Little stinker was able to reach one.
He is ready for the egg hunt!
That turns out didn't start for over an hour after we arrived.
The website said 5:00. We got there at 4:30. Reality it didn't begin until 5:45.

OH, the disappointment!
Just kidding!
We found room to RUN!
Stone walls to scale.
I couldn't believe it at first. He made it.

Don't you dare jump!
Want to climb it again?

Want to try a bigger wall? hehehe
Grandma and Grandpa joined us.
One to take pictures and TWO people to keep eyes on him.
It's almost time!!
He is ready.
We hear it coming....
The helicopter circles both fields before returning to the younger section. The younger sections was for 5 and under. This is where we stayed. The other area was for the big kids and parents weren't not permitted to enter. I would have lost him for sure in that mess!

Everyone was waving and cheering.
Yeaaaaahhh!!

Ready.....GO!
Each child was permitted to pick up 10 eggs.
Want to guess how that was monitored??
It wasn't.
I believe Gavin left with 17. I did witness some of the volunteers stopping kids with overflowing bags and asking them to put some back (I saw kids with 40+ eggs easily in their "luggage" they brought.)

All those eggs were gone in minutes.
It looks a bit crowded, but it really wasn't bad at all.

After all, It's Easter. Everyone was pleasant and having a good time :)
I look forward to going again next year!

Happy Easter

The excitement in line to see the Easter Bunny is intense.
The emotion once we are next ...fear.

Happy Easter

Easter Morning

As always, Gavin had a super Easter morning filled with an Easter basket of goodies, an egg hunt and discovering what happens to magic jelly beans in the yard.
"MOMMY!!! Loooooook!"
An 8 set of books
A butterfly garden....I look forward to getting the caterpillars and doing this with him.
Searching for all 8 eggs we colored yesterday.
He found them all. Only the last two took a little coaching.
Playing with his new sandwich felt set.
 Mmmmmmmm!
"Silly me! They aren't real."
(a new saying of his recently is "silly me" whenever he does something...odd)
And those magic jelly beans grew into a magic lollipop that was just perfect for breakfast.
Perfect because we are going to see family in a bit and I won't be alone to handle him coming down off the sugar :)
 Happy Easter!

Magic jelly beans

I thought we could use a new Easter tradition.
I think we will be discovering lots of new traditions this year.

But for tonight, we have magic jelly beans.
They only have magic the night before Easter.

First, you get the beans.
Then you go outside in your pajamas, muddin' boots and coat because you almost forgot about them and plant them in your yard.

You get this look because you use a cat scooper to dig the hole because you are in no mood to dig through the garage or shed to try and find a small shovel.
(and he's had LOTS of pictures taken today)
Just deep enough to cover them is fine.
In the morning go outside and see what grew!

I love magic jelly beans.
Anyone know how I can make some dollar bills grow overnight?
Now that would be fun!
(PS - I found these at Walgreens for $1.00)

Kool-Eggs

I must start off by saying both of these methods were discovered on Pinterest.
Amazing stuff.

It's Easter week and it wouldn't be right to not color some eggs now, would it?
I certainly had the experience every year growing up.

But when is there time to stand in the kitchen to hard boil eggs? I don't have many minutes to myself. I'm either at work, running errands or playing with Gavin. He's not a fan of me cooking, getting on the computer, or even using my phone. So when I saw that you can bake hard boiled eggs, I was intrigued.

It's simple. Three hundred fifty degrees for thirty minutes.
I balanced them on a mini muffin tin. I'm a genius.
I then walked away and got the laundry started, cat litter changed, and living room vacuumed before the timer went off.
Can't beat that.

Take them out and toss then in ice water for ten minutes.
Afterwards they sat in my fridge for two days before having time to color them.

Which is the second kool idea.
Using kool-aid to dye eggs!
You can get 5 packets for a dollar. No need for vinegar since the kool-aid already has citric acid in it AND it makes your kitchen smell fruity :)
We had 8 eggs, so I let him pick 4 colors.
Each mug held a kool-aid packet and 2/3 cup water.
 Fun!
But very carefully. If one of them spilled....Ay-yi-yi!
The color takes fast to the eggs. We only left them in a couple minutes.
Eight colorful Easter eggs!
(minus the streaks from laying on paper towels)
Next year I'll remember to save some toilet paper tubes or something to cut up and balance them upright.

Hoppin' down the bunny trail

It's window time!!

And we did the shaving cream painting again to decorate some eggs.
Then we added some gems.
Stop here, Easter Bunny!!
